Frequently Asked Questions

Live Scan Fingerprinting

What do I need to bring?

  1. Request for Live Scan Form (3 Copies)

  2. Valid Identification

  3. Payment-Unless your employer has a valid account

How long does the process take?

If your Request for Live Scan form is accurately completed with all the required personal information, the fingerprinting process itself typically takes about five minutes. This short time frame includes identity verification, capturing your fingerprints with our state-of-the-art equipment, and processing your data. Please note that the total time may vary slightly depending on the volume of clients and any additional requirements from your requesting agency. Double-checking your form for completeness before your visit can help ensure a smooth and efficient experience.

What about the live scan results?

After your Live Scan appointment, the Department of Justice (DOJ) processes your fingerprint data and delivers the results directly to the employer or the requesting agency. Typically, this turnaround time is between 24 to 72 hours. However, processing times can vary based on the volume of requests and any additional verification of any criminal record history that may be required. We recommend contacting the requesting agency directly if you have any concerns. WE DO NOT RECEIVE THE RESULTS

What could delay my results?

Please be aware that your clearance could be extensively delayed (for up to 30 days) for any of the following reasons:

If your year of birth is prior to 1945

If you have an arrest record.

I've received a Rejection Notice—what should I do next??

If you receive a notice from the Department of Justice stating that your fingerprints are unacceptable, please bring that letter to our facility so we can assist with a resubmission. In many cases, you may have already been alerted that your prints might be rejected due to quality issues. Please note that if your prints were originally taken at another Live Scan facility, our Rolling Fee will apply for the resubmission. Should the second submission also be rejected for poor quality, the applicant agency will need to request a name check.

Can I check my own criminal background?

Individuals have the right to request a copy of their own criminal history record from the Department to review for accuracy and completeness.  To receive a copy of your personal criminal history record, you must fill out a Record Review Live Scan Form.
